Employability Toolkit

The Equality Commission is committed to encouraging employers to promote employability initiatives for those marginalised groups less able to access employment in Northern Ireland. Corporate Objective 1.0 of the Commission´s Business Plan; ´To Promote Equality and Good Relations´; requires that we deliver effective information and advisory services to key groups, including employers, public authorities, service providers, complaints and the public.
One of the attached Strategic Actions is that the Commission´s Employment Development Division implements a programme of partnership working to raise employers´ awareness of the employability issue and; works with employers to promote employability opportunities for those marginalized from the labour market.
To assist employers with the promotion of their employability strategy, the Employment Development Division has developed an Employability Toolkit which includes 5 individual publications, each designed to offer a separate resource for employers. Combined, these resources offer a comprehensive support package for employers in conducting their employability work.
The documentation includes:
- Guidance on the legislative provisions relating to positive and affirmative action;
- A directory which provides details of a representative sample of employability initiatives across Northern Ireland;
- Various Case Studies outlining best practice examples of actual employability initiatives;
- A template Employment Equality Plan to assist employers in formalising their employability work;
The Equality Commission is committed to updating this Directory to ensure that the information contained in it is as accurate as possible, however we acknowledge the potential for some information to become dated over time. We will be pleased to accept corrections from interested parties and to include details of employability initiatives which may not have been included in this draft, where relevant.
